We will never forget this day!
First we wanted to get familiar with the culture in Boston. The city has many theatres, including Cutler Majestic Theatre, Boston Opera House and The City Performing Arts Center. We found time to visit the Boston Opera House, it was amazing! We all appreciate opera.
The opera seemed very modern because it had restored in 2004. We watched Boston Ballet which is a very typical show for the Boston Opera House.
The Boston Opera House, lovely!! Next stop was the Museum of Fine Arts. It was very large, it is one of the largest museums in the United States! It was crowded, over one million people visits the museum every year! We didn´t have time to view all the arts, it contains over 450 000 works of art! It was a pleasure to visit this museum because we all enjoy fine and beautiful arts! |

After exploring the city we got hungry and decided to visit the famous Union Oyster House for dinner. We ate fried Boston scrud because we wanted to taste something that is typical for Boston.

In the end of the 17th century this city was a very important city in the North America, especially for the trading. It was also central for the resistance against England. Other important happenings was the Boston massacre 1770, Boston Tea Party 1773.
The growth of the Boston area continued in the 18th century. As settlements grew into towns around the city, overseas trade increased, and mills were built along the rivers for logging, the forging of iron, and processing wool. Fishermen and farmers prospered as well.
Massachusetts prospered in the early 19th century with improved roads, new canals, and the construction of railways, linking cities and towns. Laborers were recruited locally, but by the 1840's there were not enough locals to fill the work force. The answer came with the arrival of the first non-English immigrants, from Ireland. The Civil War was a profitable time for Boston manufacturers, with the production of weapons, shoes, blankets, and other materials for the troops. Boston also played a role as a leading voice of the abolitionist movement. The late 19th century was Boston's greatest industrial era. As millions of immigrants from around the world came to America, Boston continued as a leading manufacturer of a wide variety of goods and products.

The famous Boston massacre 1770. Looking scary, huh? |
As the city also is one of the birthplaces of the hardcore punk genre of music, we of course went to one of those concerts. Boston musicians have contributed significantly to this music scene over the years. Popular bands from Boston are for example The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and The Allstonians. The 1980s' hardcore punk-rock compilation This Is Boston, Not L.A. highlights some of the bands that built the genre.

We also went out in the evening. Boston has many pubs and nightclubs to visit. One nightclub that we visited was called Soho Boston and it has a very good reputation and we enjoyed it a lot. We talked to some people from Boston and they were very nice and open-minded about everything. They mentioned that the economic crisis a couple of years ago of course affected Boston but they were getting up on their feet again thanks to their many industries. They also said that the crime has become lower the past ten years. The city has some vagrants but it’s not as terrible as in other cities in the U.S. But as in many other cities around the world today there is also an amount of unemployed people and it’s counted to 9,1 %.

And finally we wanted to say that the weather was excellent here today: it was both sunny and around 25 degrees Celsius!
Other interesting facts:
- The city has 645 000 inhabitants.
- The city is influenced by both modern and traditional style
- The city was settled in 1630!
- A few horse carriages are still found in Boston, transporting the tourists around the city!
